COMBAT INFANT AND MATERNAL MORTALITY

KDF meets the needs of vulnerable and marginalized people in Kolda by strengthening hospitals and health centers’ capacity to provide quality and affordable care.

Kolda holds the dismal record of maternal mortality with a rate of 588 deaths per 100,000 births against a national average of 434 deaths per 100,000 births. Infant and juvenile mortality are 100 before the age of one year while it is 53 at the national level. As for the juvenile mortality (death between 1 year and 4 years), it is 63.1% in Kolda against a national average of 27.2. For this age group, deaths are higher among girls (71% ) against 55.7$% for boys. These enormous losses of life are the result of major disparities in access to and inadequate medical care. Without your contribution, unfortunately, this trend will only worsen with disastrous consequences for families and the country.

With your donation, KDF and its strategic partners will ensure that medical check-ups and screening tests are available to keep thousands of mothers and their babies healthy during pregnancy and following birth with improved access to higher quality and affordable healthcare. KDF intends to use this fund to:

  • Blood drives with local communities.
  • Supply and maintain lifesaving medical equipment in rural and underserved areas.
  • Hire, and retain doctors, nurses, and support staff in underserved areas.
  • Subsidize continuing medical education for health professionals.
  • Implement the Lean Six Sigma program to empower health centers to improve quality of care on a more sustainable basis.
  • Conduct research
